Bartees Strange

The UK-born, Oklahoma-raised, and DC-residing force now known as Bartees Strange learned discipline and creativity at the same time. It’s led to many varying musical endeavours over the years, including the post-hardcore band he helped found Stay Inside, working as a producer and guitarist for Lizzie No and taking the stage with genre defying acts like Melanie Charles. But despite all of that, Bartees has created his own artistic identity shown in his upcoming album and divergent live performances. Songs by Bartees have landed him in publications like Billboard, Afropunk, WXPN, Bluegrass Situation and Brooklyn Vegan.

You can hear Toronto-based, no-wave punk outfit BLANKSCREEN from a mile away. Whether it's Robyn Bond's belligerent drumming, Sam Reilly's haunting bass lines, or vocals that alternate between guitarist Evan Moore's off-kilter spoken word and Reilly's wailing melodies-- ears will be burrowed into and held hostage from the inside. Building upon a traditional punk foundation, the threesome layer whirling synthesizers and cryptic lyricism, generating imagery that is equal parts Soylent Green and Jim Jones

Greg Mendez

Working with a borrowed 8-track tape machine and two microphones, Philadelphia songwriter Greg Mendez recorded the bulk of his latest album, Cherry Hell, in his bedroom. In the tradition of artists like Townes Van Zandt and Elliott Smith, its eight short songs follow characters coping with abuse, addiction, love, and regret.
